About the Artist

Hello!
My name is Sarah. I am the owner and creator of SK:KS Custom Designs. As a small business based in the outskirts of Portland, Oregon, we exist among some of the best artists in the state. Carrying the culture and inspiration from the city and its people into my drawings and designs. I have been drawing and painting in one form or another for my whole life. Starting as soon as I could. Coming out into the world determined to make my mark. Literally. I would sit inside my closet as a child, and draw on the walls with whatever I could get my hands on, pencil, sharpie, markers, you name it (it was already on the wall). As a kid I graduated into sketchbooks, and as an adult I am back to drawing on anything and everything I can get my hands on.

I am a young mom of two adorable, crazy girls. I found that with a full-time sales job, and full-time care of my kids, I didn't have time for anything. Much less being creative. With the nation and the world, under lock down I have been lucky enough to work from home. Being able to work from home, I have soaked up as much time as possible with my girls. I would work while they were asleep, and watch them while they are awake. Making my 16 hour days fun and exciting, but also sometimes long and grueling. After a while of this schedule, I found myself falling into a funk. Most days too tired and stressed about work. I admit I was not fun to be around. So something had to change, for all of our sakes.
I considered putting the girls in daycare while I was at work. This would give me more time to do things, but I worried that I would miss everything. I am not ashamed to admit that, I would probably miss them, more than they would miss me.

I wanted, no, needed to be with them.
Okay, so job it was. And slowly, an idea emerged. So small at first, that it was just a whisper. Tempting me quietly from my subconscious. But quickly, that little spark turned into a full-fledged idea. Grabbing me by the seat of my pants and taking me along whether I wanted to or not. And soon it was all I could think about.
Art. For me, Art started everything. Filling up countless sketchbooks as a child, I dreamed of having my own business. That dream never faded as I went into adulthood. Merely pushed aside for years, only to reemerge when I really needed it.
Creating SK:KS Custom Designs, has been one of the best decisions that I have made. Finally, having the courage to follow my dreams. And teaching my girls that you can do anything you want to do, with hard-work, dedication, and a little bit of love from the people around you.
